Deacon's stole pattern

by Pam Pike
(Antioch, TN)

I purchased your pattern and made my first stole. The measurements however seem off. Can you tell me what the finished measurements should be please? Measuring from the neck down to the hip and the hip down to the bottom. If I need to add length would it be ok to just add it in the center of each pattern piece? Thanks for your help.

measuring for deacon's stoles.

one thing from my experience, from those when measuring you up for a stole, (Every stole needs to be made to the individual) is they measure you over your street clothes.
They should measure you over your cassock, alb & amice. Or the modern habit style of alb.
If they don't it can feel like you are going to be strangled.

Deacon's Stole Length
by: Lynne Green

The length of the stole should go from your deacon's shoulder down to his right hip bone (that's the top piece), and the bottom piece can go from the hip bone to as long as he wants it to be.

As for lengthening the pattern, the bottom piece can be lengthened at the end (just make it longer). The shoulder to hip piece would have to be lengthened in the middle.
